About Southern Quantum

Built for the transition that's already begun.

We exist because the shift to post-quantum cryptography is not a distant, theoretical problem: standards are finalised, timelines are being set by regulators, and the organisations that start early will have far more choices than the ones that wait.

We'd rather be early and calm than late and scrambling.

Why we started

Clarity first, then a plan.

Most organisations don't struggle with post-quantum cryptography because the algorithms are hard. They struggle because nobody has a clear picture of where cryptography lives in their systems, or which parts of that exposure actually matter first. Southern Quantum was founded to close that gap: to give security and engineering teams a grounded, standards-based map of where they stand, and a sequence of steps they can actually execute, not a report that sits on a shelf.

What we value

Three things we hold ourselves to.

Clarity

We turn a dense technical problem into a plan people outside the security team can follow.

Agility

We build for the transition after this one, not just the one in front of us.

Rigor

Every recommendation is grounded in published standards, not guesswork.

Founders

The people behind Southern Quantum.

Southern Quantum is a sovereign startup co-founded by two individuals who believe the post-quantum transition deserves clear thinking, not fear, and that it should be led from Australia, by an Australian-owned and operated team

Narayana Madineni

Co-Founder

Narayana Madineni is on a mission to help Australian organisations prepare for the post-quantum era. Honored as IBM Master Inventor with patents in quantum-safe cryptography, he has run PQC awareness programs for Australian businesses for several years and spoken at the Quantum Safe Panel at Quantum Australia 2025, the 2026 Quantum Safe Executive Roundtable in Adelaide (Quantum Australia and IBM), the IBM Data Security Conference's PQC panel, and a roundtable on machine identity, PKI, and PQC. He now runs hands-on Post-Quantum Cryptographic Planning Workshops for CISOs and Chief Risk Officers, helping organisations including APRA-regulated institutions build the cryptographic transition plans

Stephen Chey

Co-Founder

Stephen has spent close to two decades in strategy consulting and technology-enabled transformation across Asia-Pacific, the Middle East, and Africa with Deloitte, IBM, and PwC with deep expertise in national security, cryptography, and critical infrastructure protection. He is one of Australia's active voices on post-quantum cryptography and cryptographic governance, publishing regularly on LinkedIn (including recent pieces like "Cryptographic Sovereignty: The Question Boards Are Starting to Ask" and "From Awareness to Oversight") and speaking at industry events on the topic and organising cyptographic planning workshops. He has been advocating for adoption of Quantum Safe Technologies for several years and writes widely on the board-governance and director-duty implications of quantum risk under Australian law.
